Having worked as a staff photographer on various newspapers over a number of years, I have witnessed at first hand some of the stories and photographs that arrived in the post daily from Public Relations companies and other media outlets. I have therefore seen it from both sides.
If the Editor showed interest in something that dropped on his desk, invariably a call would come through to the photographic department to come and have a look, with the instructions: “Can we come up with something more interesting?”
The submitted pictures may have been technically perfect but they were not good newspaper pictures; they usually lacked any sort of imagination or impact. If it was too much effort they would invariably end up in the bin. Whenever possible a re-shoot would be arranged. The moral here then is to submit the right set of pictures in the first place.
It’s how I began this long career in Photography. I first worked in London as second assistant to a photographer in a studio where all sorts of merchandise was painstakingly photographed under controlled lighting conditions. The attention to detail was intense and the learning experience was superb. The main clients we worked for were the Green Shield Stamp catalogue, the Argos catalogue, the Performance Awards and Performance Awards Executive catalogues plus other smaller clients who would need products photographed on a less regular basis.
I have studio facilities and plenty of outdoor space to take photographs for your Advertising or Marketing campaign whether it’s any kind of still life or maybe you need to book models, or bring in hair and make-up?
We are based in central Essex just five minutes from the A12 near Hatfield Peverel.
We have ample free parking and space for larger vehicles delivering merchandise to be photographed.
We can arrange to meet you off the train at Hatfield Peverel railway station if you choose to come by public transport.
Failing all that, we can even come to you. We can bring the cameras, lights, and background paper to you and shoot the whole thing on your premises.
The choice, as they say, is yours!
