People often ask who is the most famous person you have photographed? It’s a question I always stumble over as there have been a lot over the last forty-five years. Most famous could be a member of the Royal Family, certainly Sir Richard Branson. Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson or Liza Minnelli. What about the brusque World War ll hero Sir Douglas Bader? There are many more.
I have never done the paparazzi thing and any pictures I have taken of famous people have been commissions from newspapers.
Pop stars are good to do. I photographed Paul Simon performing at Wembley Arena and would love to a one-to-one session with him to talk about his time living where I grew up in Brentwood, Essex
I have spaces on my website for Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John before I finally pack my cameras away.
I photographed a young Take That at Polydor Records in Fulham Palace Road, London. One Saturday morning I ended up running with Madonna – accompanied by her six bodyguards. I was trying to keep up and photograph her in Hyde Park before collapsing flat on my back with a red face, very out of breath.
I have photographed some of the football World Cup winners from 1966 though not playing football. Alan Ball opening a betting shop, Bobby Moore booking a family holiday at a travel agency. Geoff Hurst switching on Christmas lights and Martin Peters taking part in The Sun’s ‘Hand of Hod’, a play on the ‘Hand of God’ goal scored by Diego Maradona and this ‘Hod’ being that of Glenn Hoddle.
Famous people and celebrities. I have done them and a small number of those pictures are displayed on this website.
